Founder and Director
Dr. S. R. Rao, Ph.D., Founder and Director of Genentech Regulatory Solutions LLP, is a distinguished leader in biotechnology policy, regulation, and innovation. With more than four decades of experience, he has contributed extensively to scientific research, regulatory governance, international policy negotiations, and national capacity building. He previously served as Vice President (Research, Innovation & Development) at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Puducherry, and earlier as Senior Advisor at the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Dr. Rao served the Government of India for over 28 years in DBT across key leadership roles beginning in 1980. His responsibilities included promoting R&D in agricultural, medical, and animal biotechnology; guiding biopharmaceutical and bioagri regulations; overseeing biosafety and biosecurity systems; and establishing national biotechnology facilities. He strengthened interdisciplinary research, institutional capacity building, programme coordination, and strategic planning within India's biotechnology ecosystem.
He possesses deep expertise in biopharmaceutical, bioagri, genome editing, biosafety, and one-health regulatory frameworks. Dr. Rao has overseen major regulatory bodies including the Review Committee on Genetic Manipulation (RCGM) and the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC). As DBT's focal point, he coordinated with agencies such as CDSCO, MEA, MoEF&CC, ICMR, ICAR, CSIR, and FSSAI on biotechnology policy and regulation.
Dr. Rao represented India in major international negotiations, including CBD, BWC, the Nagoya Protocol, and the Nagoya–Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol. He also served as Officer on Special Duty to the Minister of Science and Technology. He is Co-Founder of the Global Alliance for Pandemic Preparedness and Response (APAR) and Founder and Editorial Board Member of the Asian Biotechnology Development Review (ABDR). With over 40 publications, a book, and numerous global presentations, he remains an authoritative voice in biotechnology governance and biosafety policy.

Co-Founder and Technical Director
Abhijit Poddar is the Co-Founder and Technical Director of Genentech Regulatory Solutions LLP, bringing extensive expertise at the intersection of biotechnology, regulatory science, and biosafety governance. With a career spanning scientific research, regulatory documentation, and compliance strategy, he has worked across multiple domains including industrial biotechnology, food and feed regulation, clinical research support, export control, and biosafety frameworks.
He has led and contributed to a wide range of scientific projects involving microbial biotechnology, zebrafish toxicology, aquaculture systems, precision fermentation, and genetic engineering. His expertise extends to regulatory dossier development, IBSC and biosafety compliance, FSSAI documentation, strain characterisation, and DCGI/CDSCO submission support. Abhijit's multidisciplinary background enables him to bring scientific depth and regulatory clarity to complex compliance requirements.
In addition to consultancy work, he plays an active role in capacity building, offering training programs, workshops, and international seminars on biosafety, regulatory writing, and export-control awareness. He is committed to strengthening India's regulatory ecosystem by supporting institutions, startups, and industries in meeting national and international standards.

Finance and Operations Director
Dr. Uma Rao is the Finance and Operations Director of Genentech Regulatory Solutions LLP and a senior biotechnology leader with extensive experience in agricultural research, institutional management, and scientific program coordination. She formerly served as Head, Project Coordinator (All India Coordinated Research Project on Nematodes) and Principal Scientist at the Division of Nematology, ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), one of India's premier agricultural research institutions.
During her distinguished career at ICAR–IARI, Dr. Rao led major national research initiatives in nematology, plant pathology, and crop protection, overseeing multi-institutional projects, coordinating scientific programs, and strengthening research capacity across India. Her work contributed to improved understanding of nematode biology, plant–parasite interactions, sustainable pest management practices, and the development of solutions relevant to Indian agriculture.
Dr. Rao brings robust expertise in research administration, scientific project management, financial oversight, institutional operations, and national program coordination. Her leadership experience includes managing large research grants, supporting interdisciplinary collaborations, and driving operational efficiency in science-led organizations.
Beyond her role at Genentech, she also serves as Director for multiple biotechnology-driven companies, including Eliciton Innovation and Convergent Biosciences, where she contributes strategic guidance in research operations, organizational governance, and innovation management.
With a strong foundation in agricultural biotechnology and decades of experience in India's national research system, Dr. Uma Rao plays a key role in shaping Genentech's operational strength, scientific credibility, and commitment to supporting the biotechnology sector with regulatory clarity and institutional excellence.
